Ozone, the best ally to save water

Decisive factors to innovate

Currently one of the biggest drawbacks of fashion and the textile industry is the reduction of the environmental impact due to the use of chemicals during the production of garments. The scarcity of natural dyes, their costs and their offers in the market, mean that traditional dyes made synthetically and with a high chemical content continue to be chosen.

Another characteristic factor is the excessive use of water in the production line, precisely during the washing of the fabrics, for the elimination of the chemicals used and to give the final finishing details to each garment.

Studies carried out estimate that a garment can consume up to 70 liters of water in total during its production. Alarming data and even more so in the time in which we live in which we must preserve natural resources and have a mentality aimed at sustainability.

How does OZONE help us?

Fortunately, technology is on the side of the industry; its evolution allowed greater agility, as well as the effective use of each resource. One of the most outstanding novelties is the use of ozone in the production line.

The contribution of ozone as a fabric bleach is extremely beneficial since it achieves that “vintage” finish that is on the rise and has always been one of the most requested options by consumers. The highly oxidative characteristics of ozone allow for a sustainable bleaching method without excessive chemicals or cost. In addition, ozone does not generate by-products that must be treated.

Proven facts and features

Now we will provide technical data on the use of ozone to eliminate or create effects on the color of garments and its relationship with wastewater, which is often treated in situ through biological treatment processes.

This can provide a reduction of around 90% of incoming COD and BOD. The remaining COD and BOD may continue to be significant environmental burdens. Normally it is not possible to remove the discoloration from the wastewater from the textile production described above.

Ozone is a very effective color removal technology as part of the tertiary treatment stage. Total color removal can be achieved within 5-15 minutes of ozone exposure, depending on ozone capacity. At the same time, COD and BOD can be treated to achieve almost zero emissions in any textile factory that uses ozone.

The future is now

In our lines we already make use of this cutting-edge technology, providing innovation and efficiency in the garments produced. In addition to ensuring the elimination of up to 85% of chemicals and savings of more than 20 liters per garment made. The process basically is to take air from the atmosphere, then it goes to the machines to generate ozone; then the garments are exposed to ozone, achieving the desired effect and avoiding the use of bleach and stone washing.

Room for the use of Ozone machinery.

Within our sustainability campaigns we are constantly monitoring the effectiveness of the formulas used and the development methodology, in the future it is expected to reduce consumption to a glass of water, being on a par with large and outstanding brands in the market that are pioneers in the evolution and production of eco-friendly and sustainable lines.
